In Almaty's Zhetysu District, construction has begun on an embankment along the Esentai River, stretching from Chernovitskaya Street to Samyrsyn. The new recreation area will span 1,200 meters (1.2 km), reports infohub.kz.
According to the city administration, the project includes riverbed cleanup and the creation of a pedestrian zone. The public space will feature 3,700 square meters of paving stones, a 230-square-meter parking lot, and 6,850 square meters of landscaping. Additionally, 120 lighting poles along a 1.2-kilometer stretch, 50 benches with trash bins, and two public restrooms will be installed.
Special attention is given to recreational areas: children's and sports playgrounds, a skate park, and walking paths will be built. For children, swings, slides, and climbing structures are planned to promote motor skills and physical activity.
Reconstruction of bridge crossings will ensure safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists: sidewalks and bike paths will be laid, and an automatic irrigation system will be installed.
"The new public space will turn the river embankment into a unique natural park within the city. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2024," the city administration noted.
Earlier, Almaty Mayor Yerbolat Dosaev announced the embankment construction on the Esentai River and instructed that the work be finished by the end of June. Additionally, reconstruction of the Kargaly River embankment, spanning 7.7 kilometers, has begun in the Nauryzbay District.
