The renovation of pedestrian areas along the Yessentai River in Almaty has sparked public debate: the absence of railings on a tiled ramp has raised concerns among residents, and the akimat explained when the fences are planned to be installed, reports infohub.kz.

Cast-iron fences were replaced along the river, pedestrian zones were updated, and new tiles were laid. The work also affected the ascent at the intersection with Karasai Batyr Street. This particular section drew the attention of the author of a post in Threads, @rakhilyam1987, who pointed out possible difficulties for pedestrians in winter when the surface may be covered with snow and ice.

The social media author ironically suggested that in winter this section could turn into an extreme attraction for passersby.

"And just imagine: snow, ice, tiles… Parents with strollers, elderly people, ordinary pedestrians — we either keep our balance or try out the free winter attraction 'Slide the Almaty Way'?" she wrote.

A separate issue concerns winter maintenance of the area. The author asked how snow and ice would be removed and whether conditions were created for safe movement of people with limited mobility.

"Landscaping is not just beautiful fences and new tiles. It is an environment where every person can walk safely without risking their health. The beauty was created. But accessibility and safety were not provided for," the author emphasized.

The post elicited an emotional reaction from users. One commentator suggested that in winter such sections could lead to injuries.

"Trauma departments will have to be opened additionally, or field hospitals deployed for broken arms, legs, etc.," the user wrote.

The Almaty akimat responded to the appeal and said that work on the embankment is still ongoing.

"The Yessentai project team has reviewed your appeal and reports that all completed work complies with the approved project documentation. Currently, work is ongoing. The installation of railings is provided for in the project and is scheduled for October of this year. We thank you for your appeal and your caring attitude toward the city's landscaping!" the statement said.
