Emergency services in Almaty were put on high alert following a call about an alleged explosive device planted in a district police department building. The bomb report was not confirmed, and a suspect was detained, reports infohub.kz.
After the signal was received, emergency specialists immediately arrived at the scene. They thoroughly inspected the premises and the surrounding area.
No explosive devices, explosives, ammunition, or other dangerous items were found. Police launched a pre-trial investigation and identified the person who made the report.
"During the pre-trial investigation, officers from our unit identified the person who made the report. He turned out to be a 56-year-old man. He admitted that he had not actually planted any explosive device and that he had made the bomb report intentionally. The suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened on this fact," said Maksat Pshan, head of the Almaly District Police Department.
The man's motive has not been disclosed. He is currently in a temporary detention facility.
Police reminded that every bomb report is treated as a real threat. Knowingly false information can lead to criminal liability.
