One of Almaty's oldest murals, "Father of Apples," has been covered in scaffolding, and there is a chance it could be painted over. Kursiv LifeStyle reports this, according to infohub.kz.

The artwork is located in the very center of the city, at 33 Kurmangazy Street, between Nazarbayev and Tulebayev streets. The mural was created back in 2013 for the Artbat Fest festival. Its authors, the creative group "310," ironically reinterpreted the translation of the Kazakh expression "Alma-Ata." The work is done in a pop-art style. Incidentally, it is unofficially called "Bandit with a Bag of Money."

Photos show the mural has been surrounded by scaffolding. It has already undergone several restorations, but it is not out of the question that it could be painted over as part of the "from facade to facade" program. In that case, one of the city's iconic street art pieces would become history.

In the comments, users lean toward exactly that outcome.

"It's a shame, of course, how much effort and energy the artists put in. Oh well, they'll paint new ones," one commenter wrote.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that a new mural was created on the health trail in honor of the Almaty Marathon, as the city marked the 15th anniversary of the running sports event.
