A roof collapsed during a fire in a two-storey residential building in Almaty, injuring four people, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the roof caught fire in the Aigerim-1 microdistrict of the Alatau district, on Prigorodnaya Street.
“The first fire crews arrived at the scene within 7 minutes. By that time, the roof was ablaze across its entire area. The roof was covered with metal tiles over a wooden lath, which allowed the fire to spread quickly. There was a threat of the flames spreading to neighboring residential buildings, but firefighters prevented further spread,” the ministry said.
The fire was extinguished over an area of 180 square meters. However, the roof collapsed during firefighting, injuring four people. They were taken to hospital by ambulance and are currently under doctors' supervision.
The cause of the fire is being established.
