Residents of Almaty have been warned that starting in 2027, the launch of fireworks will be prohibited in the zone of special environmental requirements, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Almaty city administration, starting January 8, 2027, certain requirements of the Rules for the Protection of Atmospheric Air in the territory of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will come into force, including restrictions on the launch of civilian pyrotechnic substances and products using them.
"The corresponding requirement is provided for in paragraph 51 of the Rules for the Protection of Atmospheric Air of Almaty, approved by the decision of the city maslikhat on December 30, 2025. According to the document, the launch of civilian pyrotechnic substances and products using them is not allowed in the zone. This refers to pyrotechnics freely sold to the public, such as firecrackers, fireworks, salutes, and other products," the administration clarified.
At the same time, the administration noted that the entry into force of the requirements does not mean that the ban will automatically apply throughout Almaty. For its practical application, the boundaries of the low emission zone must be established.
"The boundaries of the LEZ will be approved by a separate resolution of the Almaty city administration. After its adoption, the restriction on the use of pyrotechnic products by civilians will apply within the established boundaries. Thus, from January 8, 2027, the relevant provision of the Rules will come into force, and its actual application will be linked to the approval of the boundaries of the low emission zone," the administration noted.
In addition, the atmospheric air protection rules provide for other measures to reduce pollution levels. They concern motor vehicles, the use of solid and liquid fuels, as well as environmental requirements for certain objects and emission sources.
