Starting August 17, Almaty residents will be able to apply for free use of municipal paid parking within a 500-meter radius of their homes, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Almaty Transport Department, the right to free parking will be granted for one parking spot and one car. However, no specific spot will be assigned to residents — they can use the parking only if spaces are available.

Applications can be submitted on the "Almaty Parking" website or through the eOtinish platform by filling out a special form. Earlier, Kolesa.kz reported that until recently, it was impossible to submit an application on the city parking website. To apply, you need to provide the registration certificate number, which consists of two letters and nine digits, although Kazakhstani vehicle registration documents only list eight digits. The error has now been fixed.

The review of applications for free parking will take up to 15 days. The result can also be checked after two weeks.

It was previously reported that parking fees will be calculated for each actual minute. Free intervals remain: 10 minutes for exiting surface, underground, and multi-level parking lots, and 5 minutes for sidewalk parking.
