At an extraordinary session of the Almaty Maslikhat, Deputy Akim of the city Beibut Shakhanov presented the key provisions of the draft amendments to the General Plan to 2040, which has received a positive conclusion from the comprehensive urban planning expertise, reports infohub.kz.
According to him, the most important part of the work on the amendments was interaction with residents. Proposals and appeals received during public discussions were analyzed and, where possible given legal and urban planning constraints, reflected in the design decisions. Special attention was paid to the strategic environmental assessment and further public oversight of the implementation of the General Plan.
"The further implementation of the General Plan is of particular importance. The approval of the document is the basis for the subsequent development of the city, but the key stage will be the consistent execution of the decisions it provides for. In this regard, it is necessary to ensure constant monitoring of the implementation of the General Plan, compliance with construction parameters, timely development of social and engineering infrastructure, and the preservation of green and natural areas. An important component will remain feedback from the population and informing residents about the implementation of key projects. This will enhance the transparency of urban planning decisions and promptly take into account changes in the demographic, transport, environmental, and social situation," emphasized Beibut Shakhanov.
As the deputy akim noted, the updated document is based on current data and aims at balanced development of the city, taking into account environmental, seismic, transport, social, and infrastructure constraints.
"The city faces the task of preserving Almaty's natural potential, ensuring a comfortable urban environment, improving transport connectivity, creating the necessary conditions for population growth, and at the same time preserving the city's historical identity," added Beibut Shakhanov.
