Almaty residents have voiced concern over the condition of spruce trees growing opposite the Green Bazaar after photos from a landscaping work site appeared on social media, infohub.kz reports.

The author of a Threads post under the handle @carla_naiman_ claims that the roots of mature trees are being damaged during the work. The post sparked widespread discussion among users of the popular social network.

In the comments, residents did not hide their concern. "They didn't plant them themselves and don't understand what hard work it is," one commentator wrote. Another user reacted emotionally: "How awful!" A third participant in the discussion admitted: "When will they ever stop!? It's upsetting, it brings me to tears."

The city hall responded to the post. Officials explained that comprehensive landscaping of the area is underway at the address as part of a project to create a gastronomy street.

"All work is carried out in compliance with the necessary requirements and standards, including with regard to preserving existing green spaces. During the work, no damage to the root systems of the spruce trees or other green spaces has been recorded. The video material provided shows no visible signs of damage to the trees. We thank you for your inquiry and active civic stance. The issue of preserving green spaces is under control," the city hall statement said.
