Utility and emergency services in Almaty have been placed on heightened alert due to expected sharp weather deterioration: heavy precipitation is forecast for the night of October 5 in the metropolis, potentially causing local flooding, reports infohub.kz.

According to the city akimat's press service, mobile crews, special equipment, and motor pumps have been prepared in advance for rapid response. According to the RSE "Kazhydromet," light rain is possible after 21:00 on October 4, but after midnight the intensity will increase — at night, heavy rain is expected at times with amounts up to 15–20 mm. In the morning, precipitation will weaken and, according to the forecast, cease by 12:00 on October 5. Additionally, northwest wind gusts of up to 15–18 m/s are expected.

"To prevent and promptly address possible local flooding, 70 mobile crews will be on duty. 337 units of special equipment, 103 motor pumps, and 2,400 sandbags are ready. 717 specialists from utility and emergency services are involved," the department said.

The main forces will be concentrated on areas most prone to water accumulation. At locations of possible flooding, sewage trucks will be on standby, and road workers are equipped with motor pumps and necessary tools.

"Overall, the daily deployment of utility services consists of 3,080 road workers and 1,225 units of special equipment. The works involve the state utility company 'Almaty Tazalyk' and private contractors," the akimat clarified.

According to the forecast, on October 6, Almaty will see partly cloudy weather without precipitation.
