In Almaty, doctors at the City Reproductive Center performed a complex operation, removing a tumor weighing about three kilograms that had occupied almost the entire abdominal cavity of a patient. The woman had lived with the tumor for a year and a half, attributing her growing belly and feeling of heaviness to excess weight, infohub.kz reports.
The tumor had grown to the size of a full-term pregnancy and contained seven liters of fluid. Only after pain appeared did the Almaty resident seek medical help.
During examination, including ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, it was revealed that the cause of her abdominal enlargement was not excess weight but a huge tumor.
Due to the advanced stage of the case and the presence of adhesions from previous interventions, the risk to the patient was extremely high. Nevertheless, surgeons managed to preserve her reproductive organs.
Overall, the operation was successful. Doctors removed a tumor weighing about three kilograms and drained approximately seven liters of fluid. The extracted tissues were sent for histological examination. According to doctors, the patient is now in satisfactory condition, receiving treatment in the hospital, and preparing for discharge.
Specialists emphasize that a sharp increase in abdominal size combined with shortness of breath, pain, and a feeling of heaviness does not always indicate weight gain. If such symptoms appear, it is necessary to undergo an examination as soon as possible to determine their true cause.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that surgeons from Kazakhstan and Russia performed a series of complex operations through small punctures on children with severe congenital pathologies of the chest and abdominal cavity. Before that, it was reported that Russian traumatologist-orthopedist Maxim Vavilov operated on children with complex foot deformities in Karaganda.
