An Almaty resident named Anastasia reported on social media about a man roaming with a knife in the Bostandyk district and threatening locals, including children. According to her, he shouts at night, damages property, and attacks passersby, and has stated his intention to go to schools No. 70 and 189. The woman claims that residents have appealed to all authorities but received only formal replies, and the local police officer does not respond to calls, reports the website infohub.kz.
Anastasia said that the man, named Alexey, broke a gate, slashed car tires, and in a video he attacked boys repairing a road, hiding the knife in his pocket. She also noted that he has no guardian, as his mother went missing several years ago, and he lives in winter without heating or care. The woman urged Almaty residents to push for his compulsory treatment before a tragedy occurs.
The Almaty Police Department reported that on August 30, a report was received about a man with a knife on the street. Arriving officers detained him and handed him over to an ambulance crew. It turned out that he is registered with the Mental Health Center and was hospitalized in a specialized facility. Police assured that there is currently no threat to the public.
