Almaty Sets Completion Dates for LRT Construction on Tole Bi Street

At a regular session of the Almaty city maslikhat, the completion dates for the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) specifically along Tole Bi Street were announced, according to infohub.kz.

According to information presented during the meeting, construction work on Tole Bi Street as part of the LRT project is planned to be completed by the end of November. The first phase of the first line is intended to be fully completed in December of next year.

The issue of the pace of LRT construction at the maslikhat session was raised by deputy Beibut Kusainov. According to him, residents are noting that some sections of Tole Bi Street are closed, but construction work is not visually underway everywhere.

— On social media, residents complain that construction has begun on certain sections of Tole Bi Street, but on some closed sections there are not enough workers and equipment visible. When will the work be completed and when will these sections be opened? — the deputy asked.

He also inquired about the completion dates for the first stage of the project, which is about 18 kilometers long.

The head of the Department of Road Infrastructure Development, Olzhas Shabdanov, reported that the construction of the first phase of the first LRT line, 18.3 kilometers long, is proceeding according to schedule. According to him, about 80 workers and more than 50 pieces of construction equipment are currently involved at the site.

One of the main stages of construction is the relocation of utility networks. In total, the project provides for the reconstruction of 282 utility crossings. To date, work has been completed on 90 of them.

— We plan to complete the work on relocating utility networks by the end of November this year. We have also started construction of the upper track structure on Momyshuly Street. To date, about 1,600 reinforced concrete sleepers and 600 linear meters of rails have been laid. As for the work on Tole Bi, we plan to complete it by the end of November. Overall, we plan to complete the project in December of next year, — noted Olzhas Shabdanov.

The session also announced plans for further development of the line. According to the head of the department, as part of the second phase of the LRT, it is planned to extend along Tole Bi Street to the Barlyk market.
