In Almaty, alongside the laying of the first light rail transit (LRT) tracks, a depot for these trains is under construction. Kursiv LifeStyle learned about the current stage of the project, infohub.kz reports.

The depot is being built in the Industrial Zone of the Alatau district. The akimat allocated a plot on Sokpakbaev Street, 72, for it. From the depot, the LRT line will run along Momyshuly Street to Tole bi Street. Then its longest section will stretch along Tole bi to Abylai Khan Avenue and continue to the Almaty-2 railway station.

The Kazakh company QPARK GROUP is the subcontractor for the depot's construction. A video about the progress of the work appeared on its Instagram page. The largest construction holding, Integra Construction, is the client.

According to a representative of the subcontractor, they must prepare the foundation for construction: remove the existing soil and fill in new soil. This is done to avoid its subsidence and, consequently, deformation of the building. So far, the project is 20% complete. Workers have removed 85% of the fertile layer. Now another soil is being laid in its place and compacted with machinery.

In total, the company's workers must remove 680,000 cubic meters and fill in 683,000 cubic meters. So far, 20% of these volumes have been completed.

"We lay the soil in layers of 30 centimeters. After compacting each layer with rollers, we conduct laboratory density control and proceed to laying the next layer only after confirming the quality of compaction of the previous one," the subcontractor's representative emphasized.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that the reinforcement and relocation of utility lines under the LRT line would be completed at the end of November 2026. After that, construction of the line itself will begin in Almaty.
