Almaty authorities have revealed new details about the construction of the second metro line, which will connect the city center with the airport. Passengers are expected to use the new route in 2032, according to infohub.kz.
According to information published on the metro's Instagram account, it will be possible to get from the airport to the "golden square" in 2032. Construction is scheduled to be completed by April 2031. The line will pass through Central Park (Gorky Park), VOAD, Khalyk Arena, and Kuldzha tract. There will be eight stations on the line, with distances between them not exceeding 1.8 kilometers.
"In the future, the metro may also extend to BAKAD," the metro shared its plans.
Construction is set to begin in April 2027 and is expected to be completed in April 2031, with all eight stations to be handed over by then. Preliminary estimates put the cost of the new line at 1.2 trillion tenge.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle showed what the almost-finished Kalkaman metro station looks like. Trains are already running to it in test mode, and its opening is scheduled for December 2026.
