Since the beginning of the year, dozens of knives, brass knuckles, and ammunition have been seized in the Almaty metro, reports infohub.kz.
Despite this, the Almaty metro remains one of the safest modes of public transport. Every day, it serves between 110,000 and 130,000 passengers.
"Since the start of the year, during inspection measures, police officers have identified 310 citizens who attempted to bring prohibited items into the metro. From illegal circulation, 29 knives, 62 items structurally similar to brass knuckles, and 4 ammunition were seized," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.
In addition, a modern video surveillance system operates at Almaty metro stations. Currently, 604 cameras are installed, some of which are equipped with real-time facial recognition.
"We urge passengers not to attempt to bring prohibited items and to immediately report any suspicious objects or illegal actions to police officers or metro staff," said Oral Akhimov, head of the metro police department.
Law enforcement officers also called on passengers to comply with metro usage rules and safety requirements.
