Rescuers in the mountains of Kazakhstan's Almaty Region launched a search-and-rescue operation for two tourists, deploying a Kazaviaspas aircraft, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, search-and-rescue teams were working in the Karasay district near Satpayev Peak (4,317 meters) to locate a minor born in 2010. Preliminary information from rescuers indicates the teenager set off into the mountains alone and then lost contact. The lack of geolocation data complicated the search, the ministry said.

During the search, rescuers found the teenager on the northern slope of Satpayev Peak and began evacuating him.

In addition, another tourist was found near Satpayev Peak at an altitude of about 3,800 meters, in the "Lunnaya Polyana" (Moon Glade) hut — an 18-year-old man showing signs of mild general hypothermia.

An operational headquarters was set up on the territory of the Big Almaty Lake (BAO) to coordinate the efforts of personnel and equipment, according to the report. A total of 114 personnel took part in the search-and-rescue operation. A Kazaviaspas aircraft was also involved.

The rescued teenager was taken to the Center for Pediatric Emergency Medical Care. His preliminary diagnosis is mountain sickness and mild hypothermia.
