Search efforts have been ongoing for several days in the mountains of Almaty for a 73-year-old citizen of the Republic of Korea who went missing after setting out on a solo hike near a high-altitude resort, infohub.kz reports.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the search and rescue operation is continuing and remains under the agency's control.
"The search and rescue operation is complicated by difficult mountain terrain, the large area being searched, and significant elevation changes. Rescuers are working in hard-to-reach areas, including gorges and mountain slopes," the agency said.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the search and rescue efforts involve forces and resources from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police department, and volunteers — a total of about 102 people, 11 pieces of equipment, four canine teams, six unmanned aerial vehicles, and Ministry of Emergency Situations aviation.
"Search operations are continuing without interruption, and the forces and resources involved are surveying areas of mountainous terrain," the Ministry of Emergency Situations added.
It was previously reported that on September 28, the 73-year-old foreign citizen took the Shymbulak cable car as part of a group, then continued on his own and disappeared. Searches were organized. On October 1, rescuers spoke about the difficulties of the search operation, and on October 2, the Ministry of Emergency Situations also reported on the progress of the search.
