Residents of Almaty have expressed outrage over the disappearance of a well-known mural that adorned the facade of a building at 245 Nazarbayev Street. On the social network Threads, Almaty residents have been discussing the loss for several days, reports infohub.kz.
The author of the post wrote: "Another mural is gone. And we had restored it not so long ago..." Others supported her, sharing photos taken over the years in front of the mural. Comments included: "I just can't believe it, I'm so upset about this work. Is it impossible to restore it now?", "It was such a beautiful piece! Why cover up such creativity?", "It was one of the most beautiful."
The Akimat of Bostandyk District commented on the situation. In an official response, it was stated that at this address, work is being carried out on decorative finishing of facades of multi-apartment residential buildings. Before the work began, a technical inspection of the facade was conducted, which revealed numerous defects, including peeling of the plaster layer, cracks, bulging of certain sections, destruction of the facade finish, and weakening of the exterior coating.
The press service of the Akimat noted: "These defects posed a potential threat to the safety of residents and pedestrians due to the possible collapse of facade elements, and also negatively affected the architectural appearance of the building and the aesthetic look of the urban environment." It was also emphasized that before the work began, meetings were held with the residents of the building, and there is a meeting protocol expressing their consent to the work.
Consequently, there was a need for repair work to eliminate the identified defects. Comments also showed what the building's facade looks like now.
