Drifting, loud exhausts and dangerous maneuvers prompted a night raid in Almaty. Over just a few hours, police recorded 160 traffic violations, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the city's police department, the raid was part of the "Noisy Transport" campaign, which will run until September 30.
"The night before, officers from the specialized administrative police battalion and other line units launched the raid. Their focus was on fans of drifting, dangerous maneuvers, loud exhausts and flagrant traffic violations. In a single night alone, 160 traffic violations were recorded. Among the most typical for the raid were 33 cases of disturbing the peace, 31 instances of driving a vehicle modified without permission, 24 maneuvering violations and 12 cases of creating an emergency situation," the statement said.
In addition, six drivers were found to be intoxicated.
According to the information media portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 74 vehicles were taken to the impound lot, including 11 cars with foreign license plates and one motorcycle.
"Behind the impressive engine sound, the sharp start or the nighttime drift lies a real threat — not only to residents' peace of mind, but also to the safety of all road users. The police position is unequivocal: Almaty's roads are no place for racing and showing off speed. The principle of 'Law and Order' applies to everyone — and compliance with traffic rules is mandatory for all," police emphasized.
We previously reported that at a government meeting, Kazakhstan's prime minister said drivers who make noise on the roads at night "should not be fined, they must be arrested."
