Almaty is considering tightening height restrictions on new residential buildings, with some areas potentially banning structures above six floors. Daniyar Alimseitov, deputy head of the city's Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, announced the plans at a briefing at the regional communications service, according to infohub.kz.
Journalists noted that the city already prohibits buildings taller than nine floors between Abai and Al-Farabi avenues. An exception is made for multifunctional buildings if their public significance and the sustainability of design solutions are justified. Media representatives asked whether there is a limit on the number of such facilities and whether the height restriction is planned to be extended to other districts of Almaty.
"Yes, there is such a point, but for this it is necessary to go through the urban planning council, discuss all these issues and accordingly ensure technical equipment. Technical documentation confirming these issues is also needed. At the same time, there is a need to justify the uniqueness of this facility. But often more than nine floors is not allowed," said Daniyar Alimseitov.
He also announced plans to introduce new height restrictions for new buildings. "Consideration is being given to lowering this restriction from nine floors further above (Abai Avenue — editor's note), but this issue is still under review. (...) In general, yes, a restriction is planned, but it is still in development. I cannot say exactly when it will be resolved, but the issue is being considered not towards an increase, but towards a decrease. Approximately around six (floors — editor's note)," the speaker explained.
