Old doors in Almaty have become a source of nostalgia on social media. Photographer Alen Shayakhmetov published a series of photos of doors that were once part of the city's landscape but have since disappeared, reports infohub.kz.
The photos capture wooden doors of various colors and eras: massive double doors, bright turquoise doors with peeling paint, old gates, and entrances to buildings with unusual architectural details.
The author noted that the photos were taken over several years. Some of the captured objects can no longer be seen in their original form today.
The publication sparked a lively response from users. Almaty residents began recalling places that changed with the city and noting where some of the doors were located.
In the comments, for example, doors at the intersection of Shevchenko and Masanchi streets were mentioned. The photographer also noted the building of the Medik stadium, which he said was demolished last year.
"It feels like nothing will be left of the old city except a small patch in the center."
