Traffic has been temporarily restricted on a section of Olimpiyskaya Street in Almaty's Medeu district, between Tyshkanbayeva Street and Baikonurskaya Street. The restriction will remain in effect until September 18, according to infohub.kz.

City akimat officials said the measure is tied to emergency repair work on a 220 kV underground power cable. The work is taking place near house No. 4A on Olimpiyskaya Street.

"Traffic has been temporarily restricted on a section of Olimpiyskaya Street in Almaty's Medeu district until September 18. The measure is tied to emergency repair work on a 220 kV underground power cable. The work is taking place near house No. 4A on Olimpiyskaya Street. During the work, the section from Tyshkanbayeva Street to Baikonurskaya Street is closed," the akimat said.

The repairs are needed because of damage to a section of the 220 kV power line No. 2363. As a result, the power system is currently operating under a forced open-circuit configuration, which reduces the reliability of electricity supply to Almaty and the Almaty agglomeration.

"To restore the standard configuration, specialists from Alatau Zharyk Kompaniyasy JSC need to carry out emergency work directly beneath the roadway. The work is being done around the clock in compliance with safety requirements. Once it is completed, the disrupted landscaping is to be restored. Residents and visitors to the city are asked to plan their routes in advance given the temporary traffic restriction," the authority said.
