Almaty continues to improve its historic center: the akimat has presented the results of work on a section of Panfilov Street, implemented under the 'People's Participation Budget' program, reports infohub.kz.
At the initiative of city residents, a stretch of Panfilov Street from Zhibek Zholy Avenue to Raiymbek Avenue is being renovated. The project started in May this year and aims to create a comfortable pedestrian zone that will extend the route in the historic center and provide convenient access to the Almaty-2 railway station.
Special attention is paid to landscaping. On an area of one hectare, existing trees will be preserved, 10,000 square meters of lawn will be sown, and 18,000 perennial shrubs will be planted along the roadway. Automatic irrigation systems, including drip irrigation, are provided for the maintenance of green spaces.
Pedestrian infrastructure will be updated over an area of 0.7 hectares. This will include laying 6,325 square meters of paving stones and 750 square meters of asphalt, installing 20 trash bins and 106 new lighting poles. To connect the lighting, 2.1 kilometers of cable lines will be laid.
The district akimat notes that the improvement will make the lower part of Panfilov Street brighter, safer, and more convenient for pedestrians.
