Major renovations at Almaty's First President Park will be completed by the end of 2026, but the upgraded grounds will not open to the public until spring 2027 — in March or April. Bostandyk District Akim Azamat Kaldybekov announced this at a briefing, according to infohub.kz.
According to Kaldybekov, the renovation work is being carried out in stages, with authorities promising to preserve the area's natural potential and green fund.
The park is getting new walkways and paths, granite paving and wooden eco-trails, and a modernized automatic irrigation system. Existing ponds are being cleaned and new water bodies created.
"A separate part of the reconstruction covers the main entrance groups and colonnades on the Al-Farabi Avenue side. You can already see the architecture taking shape. Work on the colonnade is in its final stage. We removed the old cladding — it was very thin and would break. When someone approaches, they can see what condition it was in," Kaldybekov said at the briefing.
Recall that the park's first major renovation began in February 2026. According to authorities, the work will take a full year. The final date depends on when work actually started. In response to an official inquiry, the akimat did not disclose who is carrying out the reconstruction or at what cost. The project passport lists Zhasyl Zher LLP as the general contractor. The same company renovated Republic Square in front of the city administration.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle showed footage of repairs to the main arch, while the entrance was still open.
