A parking dispute in Almaty ended in tragedy: 37-year-old Danil Shchetnikov died in hospital a week after being stabbed in the neck. This was reported by infohub.kz.
According to relatives and witnesses, it all began on the evening of October 4. That day, Danil was relaxing outside the city with his son and friends. When he returned home, he found someone else's car in his parking spot. He asked a neighbor to move the vehicle, and an argument erupted between the men, escalating into a scuffle.
Witnesses claim that after the altercation, one of the participants called his brother. The man who arrived, according to their account, pulled out a knife and stabbed Danil in the neck. The victim was taken to hospital but died a week later.
"He asks: 'Who hit you?' He pointed at my husband. He came up and struck him. At first I thought he just hit him on the head. Then I saw my husband grab his neck like this, run into the yard, and fall to the floor, choking on blood. Later it turned out his throat had been cut," said widow Irina Shchetnikova.
The deceased's friend Amir Mukashev also described what happened: "There was a conflict. They argued, fought. After that he came back here and started calling someone. We were unloading the car. A bunch of guys arrived. Without even talking, he said: 'You hit my little brother?' And he took a knife and stabbed him in the neck. After that Danil ran home and shouted: 'Call an ambulance!'"
Danil's relatives and friends claim that before the incident he had no contact with the neighbor and there had been no conflicts between them. According to them, the family of the man believed to be involved rented an apartment in the neighboring building. After the incident, as the deceased's loved ones say, these residents moved away.
In the parking lot where witnesses say the conflict occurred, an SUV now stands covered with a cloth. Witnesses claim that after the incident, stones were thrown at the car and a side window was broken.
Police reported that a criminal case has been opened for intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death by negligence. According to law enforcement, the 37-year-old suspect was detained and placed in custody.
"It was established that a verbal conflict first occurred between the men. Then a fatal wound was inflicted, from which the victim died. The suspect was immediately detained and taken into custody," said Saltanat Azirbek, official spokesperson for the Almaty Police Department.
Danil's relatives insist on an objective investigation and are asking for the case to be reclassified as murder. The final legal assessment will be given by the investigation and the court.
Danil's wife Irina is left with an eight-year-old son, and in just a month the family is expecting a baby girl.
