Official representative of the Almaty Police Department, Saltanat Azirbek, has commented on whether law enforcement officers will more frequently stop drivers over 65 after new rules take effect, reports infohub.kz.
As a reminder, amendments to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Road Traffic" come into force on August 25. According to the amendments, drivers over 65 and drivers with disabilities must undergo a medical examination every two years.
Saltanat Azirbek explained whether elderly drivers will be stopped more often to check that they have passed the medical exam. "This is not a restrictive measure, it is care for our citizens, for the older generation. It is clear that with age, reactions and vision deteriorate. Therefore, it is important to undergo a medical commission every two years, according to this new rule. A regular planned medical commission. This is to prevent road accidents involving the older generation," said the police representative.
According to Saltanat Azirbek, road checks will be carried out as part of routine patrol duties. Police will not specifically stop drivers over 65. At the same time, the police noted that citizens aged 65 and older need to undergo medical examinations in a timely manner.
