Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has acknowledged the problem of frequent power outages in Almaty, but stressed that they are unscheduled and are quickly resolved, according to the website infohub.kz. Yernar Khasenov, acting chairman of the Committee for State Energy Supervision and Control, made the statement during a government briefing.
Khasenov said the number of faults on power lines in Almaty and the surrounding region has decreased threefold over the past three years. He also noted that outages are resolved within three hours to a day.
“There are occasional routine outages. Individual neighborhoods of the city may be affected, but everything is resolved within three hours to a day,” Khasenov said.
The deputy chairman reminded that electricity services for consumers in Almaty and the region are provided by Alatau Zharyk Kompaniyasy. This year, the company plans a major repair campaign: to repair 2,200 kilometers of overhead and cable power lines, 212 substations, and 1,200 power transformers.
“Under the national project, 14 measures are planned this year, including eight projects in Almaty and six in the Almaty region,” he noted.
Additionally, a new substation called Komsomolskaya is planned for construction in the region.
Earlier it was reported that Almaty residents will no longer face power cuts due to their neighbors’ debts.
