Residents of Almaty have begun reporting that electricity has been restored in their homes. KEGOC has confirmed that power supply is being restored, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by the KEGOC press service, the operator has started restoring power supply after a technical failure in Kazakhstan's Unified Energy System.
"On August 14, 2026, at 14:37, a technical failure occurred in the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan, accompanied by the disconnection of 500 kV power lines Agadyr - Ulken L-5300 and L-5320, as well as Aktogay - Taldykorgan L-5400," the company said. As a result, the Southern zone of the UES of Kazakhstan and the Unified Energy System of Central Asia were isolated.
"According to preliminary operational data, the cause of the technical failure was a power surge from the UES of Central Asia. As a result of the failure in Kazakhstan's energy system, the volume of power supply restrictions for consumers was approximately 2810 MW. The system operator immediately began restoration measures. By 14:47, restrictions of 295 MW were lifted in the Karaganda region, Abai region, and Ulytau," KEGOC reported.
Currently, KEGOC continues restoration work to supply electricity to consumers.
