Doctors at Almaty City Perinatal Center No. 2 have successfully treated a baby born weighing just 679 grams, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health reported, according to infohub.kz.
The woman was rushed to the Almaty perinatal center at 26 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy, the ministry said. Due to pregnancy complications, doctors performed a cesarean section for medical reasons, and on August 8 a severely premature boy was born, weighing only 679 grams.
The infant spent 70 days in intensive care, including 43 days on mechanical ventilation and another 25 days on CPAP support.
"From the first minutes of life, the child required intensive medical care. Throughout this time, the medical team monitored his condition around the clock and provided the necessary treatment," the Ministry of Health said.
After long weeks of fighting for his life, the long-awaited moment came: the baby was able to leave intensive care and be reunited with his mother. He is now 75 days old, weighs 1,800 grams and has spent three days in a room with his mother.
The ministry attributed the outcome to the consistent development of perinatal care, the introduction of modern technologies and improvements in the system of medical support for mothers and children.
