A road accident in the Almaty Region has left two minors injured. A car struck children sitting on the roadside, and the driver fled the scene. The suspect was later identified and detained, according to infohub.kz.
The incident was captured on video published in the Qumash Telegram channel. According to the channel, the previous day in the village of Abay, a Cobalt driver hit two children who were on the roadside.
As the press service of the Almaty Region Health Department told a NUR.KZ correspondent, the two minors were taken with injuries to the Kaskelen Central District Hospital.
"Both patients underwent surgery and were in the anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care unit after the operations. As of today, one patient has been transferred to the surgical department for further treatment. The second continues to receive treatment in intensive care, and his condition is assessed as serious," the doctors said.
According to the press service of the regional police department, a criminal case has been opened over the hitting of the minors. The suspect has been identified.
"A 65-year-old driver who fled the scene after the accident has now been detained. He has been placed in a temporary detention facility," police said.
The police department is currently conducting all necessary investigative actions aimed at fully, comprehensively and objectively establishing all circumstances of the incident.
