A long-standing problem for residents of the Zhana Alem residential area in the village of Otegen Batyr, Almaty Region, has been resolved, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office's official Telegram channel, the Ili District Prosecutor's Office protected the interests of residents of the district center, the village of Otegen Batyr.

In 2014, a 63-hectare plot of land was divided into 664 separate parcels and sold for individual housing construction. Over more than 10 years, the Zhana Alem residential area took shape there.

"However, all this time, street improvement and road infrastructure were never carried out because the land remained in the private ownership of the previous land user. The akimat had no legal grounds to organize work on streets, sidewalks and street lighting, which caused major inconvenience for residents of the residential area," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

Moreover, the agency noted, the situation hindered the timely arrival of emergency services and created conditions conducive to offenses.

The Ili District Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit in the interests of residents. By court decision, the owner transferred 20 hectares of land to the state. This allowed local authorities to begin building and improving the road network and to carry out other infrastructure projects.

"The measures taken will improve living conditions for more than 1,500 residents of the microdistrict," the Prosecutor General's Office added.
