A regional center for traumatology and orthopedics has begun operations in Almaty, uniting medical services of the metropolis and the Almaty region. The facility is based at City Clinical Hospital No. 4, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Health, residents of Almaty and the region with severe injuries will now receive specialized and high-tech care across the full cycle. This includes both emergency admission and complex surgical procedures, as well as subsequent rehabilitation.
“The opening of such a center in the city will improve the efficiency and coordination of trauma services in Almaty and the Almaty region,” the ministry emphasized.
Olzhas Bekarisov, Director of the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Academician Batpenov, noted that regional trauma centers already operate in Astana (at the NSCTO), Karaganda (at the Multidisciplinary Hospital named after Professor Kh.Zh. Makazhanov), and Balkhash. “The new center in Almaty will become a key hub for the entire southern region,” he added.
Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of 2026, 26 new specialized departments with 403 beds have been opened in the country. According to the Ministry of Health, they operate in seven areas, including cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, pulmonology, rheumatology, endocrinology, and hematology. By the end of this year, more than 30 district hospitals are also planned to be upgraded to multidisciplinary level.
