With the start of the new school year, Almaty expects a significant increase in traffic load on the city's roads. To ensure the safety of children and reduce congestion, the city administration has implemented a set of organizational measures, reports infohub.kz.

For transporting schoolchildren, 300 school buses will be used, serving 60 schools and covering more than 13,000 children. Traffic regulation near educational institutions will be strengthened. On the morning of September 1, 470 police officers will be on duty near schools, at pedestrian crossings, and at the busiest intersections.

Residents are asked not to drive personal cars directly to school entrances and to consider alternative modes of transport in advance.

The city administration has promised to enhance public transport operations during the first two weeks of the school year. In addition to the existing 3,200 buses, about 500 buses will be allocated from the reserve. This will increase the number of vehicles on the busiest routes and reduce intervals during peak hours. The metro will also be strengthened: the number of trains will increase from 11 to 13, reducing morning intervals to 3 minutes.

In anticipation of the new school year, together with the administrative police, a check of road infrastructure near educational institutions was conducted. Special attention was paid to traffic lights, road signs, and markings. More than 140 issues were fixed. Necessary work has been completed at all educational institutions. School grounds are under 24/7 video surveillance.

In the first week of September, control over truck traffic will be intensified. According to current restrictions, trucks weighing more than 8 tons are prohibited from driving on designated sections from 7:00 to 22:00, except for deliveries essential for the city's life.

Large companies, banks, and other organizations located in the city center are recommended to consider temporarily switching some employees to remote work or flexible working hours for the first few days of September. In turn, structural divisions of the city administration and their subordinate organizations are taking measures to switch some employees to remote work from September 1 to 5, 2026, and also recommend using public transport.

Residents are asked to plan their routes in advance, avoid unnecessary car trips in the morning, and choose public transport and the metro.
