Since the start of 2026, Almaty has recorded 3,500 road traffic accidents. The main causes included driving into oncoming traffic, speeding, improper maneuvering, creating emergency situations, ignoring road signs and markings, and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the website infohub.kz.
Speaking at a briefing at the Regional Communications Service, official representative of the Almaty Police Department Saltanat Azirbek said that since the beginning of the year, authorities have detained and suspended 1,300 intoxicated drivers. In total, 1,700 people have received administrative arrest – including drivers under the influence of alcohol and those who crossed double solid lines.
