Almaty is nearing the end of its upgrade of Rozybakiev Street — after months of construction work and inconvenience for pedestrians, one of the city's major thoroughfares has been noticeably transformed, according to infohub.kz.
The work covered a 6.4 km stretch. The main changes focused on pedestrian areas: sidewalks have been widened, paving stones are being laid in place of asphalt, and bike lanes are being built along the street. Children's playgrounds, small architectural features, new benches and other elements of the urban environment have appeared in certain sections.
According to the Almaty akimat, 130 pedestrian lighting poles have been installed along the stretch. In addition, more than 22,000 shrubs and 183 trees have been planted. Existing greenery is to be preserved, officials promise.
Workers are currently continuing to lay sidewalk tiles, build pedestrian and bicycle paths, and install an automatic irrigation system. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
The street's renovation was announced in March 2026. At the time, it concerned the section from Al-Farabi Avenue to Tole Bi Street.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported why the street's new bike lane puzzled residents and how the akimat responded.
