In Almaty, the speed limit on a section of Sain Street has been reduced to 60 km/h from the previous 80 km/h. This was confirmed by the city administration, as reported by infohub.kz.
Drivers in Almaty noticed the change in speed limits on Sain Street and reported it on social media. The city administration confirmed that the restriction has indeed been introduced on one section of the highway.
As explained by the Department of Traffic Organization and Passenger Transport of Almaty, the changes affect the stretch of Sain Street from Ryskulov Avenue to Tole Bi Street.
"As part of the implementation of measures to organize a dedicated lane for route vehicles on Sain Street, from Ryskulov Avenue to Tole Bi Street, the traffic management scheme has been adjusted," the department said.
The department clarified that after redistributing the width of existing lanes, it was possible to organize four traffic lanes.
"In accordance with the approved scheme, the width of existing traffic lanes was redistributed, which allowed for the organization of four traffic lanes," the department reported.
The reason for the speed limit change was also explained.
"In order to improve road safety and taking into account the features of transport interchanges at the intersections of Sain Street with Raiymbek Avenue and Tole Bi Street, which provide entrances and exits to the interchanges, a maximum speed limit of 60 km/h has been introduced on this section," the department's response states.
