The vacant lot at the site of a Saka burial mound next to the MEGA Alma-Ata shopping and entertainment center in Almaty — where authorities first planned an open-air museum and later a park — remains unlandscaped. The timeline for the long-awaited improvement of the area is reported by infohub.kz.
Speaking at the Regional Communications Service, Azamat Kaldybekov, akim of Almaty's Bostandyk district, said the landscaping will be completed by the end of 2026. What exactly will appear on the site is still unknown.
"Currently, the Department of Public Spaces is reviewing a landscaping project. Several options have been proposed. We would like this landmark to turn out well, so the design is still in progress and the project has not been fully approved, which is why we are not showing anything yet," Kaldybekov noted.
At present, the mound is a vacant lot next to a residential complex where garbage is constantly dumped.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that at a public meeting the district akim discussed landscaping options. For example, a Baiterek tree could be installed on the mound as a symbol of the connection between the living and the departed.
