Almaty residents have voiced outrage that the city’s streets have once again been torn up. According to locals, a newly built sidewalk was demolished to lay a pipe. The akimat responded to the complaint, the website infohub.kz reports.

An Almaty resident posting under the handle madinadinmukhammed complained on Threads that a sidewalk in the city had been dug up again. “How will the Almaty akimat comment on the fact that a new sidewalk, less than a month old, was demolished to lay a pipe, again? Why is a new sidewalk being demolished to lay a pipe, why weren’t the works carried out in advance?” she wrote.

The Almaty akimat’s public spaces development department responded to the post. “Work is currently under way to connect to a transformer substation (TP). Restoration work to improve the area, including restoring the asphalt concrete surface, will be carried out by the contractor under warranty obligations. The completion date for all work, including restoration, is November 10, 2026,” the department said.
