In Almaty, two citizens of Kazakhstan have been detained on suspicion of economic smuggling and non-payment of customs duties. The damage to the state is estimated at over 2.7 billion tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, as part of the criminal investigation, it was established that members of an organized criminal group (OCG) caused damage to the state in excess of 2.7 billion tenge. The case involves 37 companies, but the investigation found that two affiliated companies, Metlink and Urban Green, caused the bulk of the damage.
The supervisory body reported that on August 5, 2026, in accordance with Articles 128-132 of the Criminal Procedure Code, on suspicion of committing crimes under Articles 262 (parts 1, 2) - leading and participating in an organized group, 234 (part 3, item 2) - economic smuggling committed by a criminal group, and 236 (part 3) - non-payment of customs duties committed by a criminal group, citizens of Kazakhstan "Sh" and "A" were detained. They were placed in a temporary detention facility of the Almaty Police Department.
On August 7, 2026, the investigating court sanctioned a preventive measure of detention for these individuals. It is noted that other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
