The Central City Clinical Hospital in Almaty now performs complex spinal surgeries free of charge under the mandatory social health insurance (OSMS) and the guaranteed volume of free medical care (GOVFMC) when medically indicated. The procedures utilize robot-assisted technology and a neuronavigation system, reports infohub.kz.
The hospital performs, among other procedures, decompression of the spinal canal with the placement of transpedicular screws. Neuronavigation and robot-assisted technology allow surgeons to plan the intervention more precisely and place implants accurately.
The cost of such high-tech operations, when performed on a paid basis, can reach 5 million tenge.
The hospital emphasized that the decision to perform surgery is made by doctors based on medical indications. If the decision is made, the operation will be performed free of charge under OSMS and GOVFMC.
These interventions are offered to patients with severe spinal and nervous system conditions.
One of the neurosurgeons performing these operations is Marat Almatov. He has been working at the Central City Clinical Hospital in Almaty for over 20 years and has operated on more than a thousand patients during this time.
Earlier it became known that Kazakhstan will combat fraud in the OSMS system in a new way. A new digital platform will help identify suspicious patterns and block payments. Specifically, whereas previously the main work was based on detecting violations after funds were transferred, the new model will identify anomalies before the transfer of funds.
