Construction of a new stadium in Almaty, which will meet UEFA standards, is ongoing. The city administration announced that the arena will have a capacity of 45,000 spectators, not 35,000 as previously planned, reports infohub.kz.
At a briefing of the Regional Communications Service, Nurbek Nursagatov, head of Almaty's construction department, spoke about the project's progress. He reminded that the new arena is being built along the Kuldzha and Talgar highways. The construction site covers about 32 hectares.
Currently, construction work is actively underway. The project takes into account modern requirements for sports infrastructure and envisions a full-fledged complex for competitions of various levels. The future stadium will meet UEFA Category 4 requirements, allowing it to host international matches and major sporting events.
In addition, the project includes training pitches, modern facilities for athletes and teams, fan zones, security systems, and comprehensive landscaping of the surrounding area.
Special attention is paid to transport accessibility. Thanks to its location near major city thoroughfares, the stadium will be effectively integrated into Almaty's transport system. The project includes development of adjacent road infrastructure, ensuring convenient access for spectators and guests, and smooth traffic flow on event days.
The city administration assured that upon completion, the facility will enable hosting international competitions, expand opportunities for football development, and strengthen the city's status as a major sports hub in the region. Construction is scheduled to be completed by March 2028.
It was previously reported that in August 2025, plans for a modern international-level stadium in Almaty were announced. The authorities also revealed the fate of the Central Stadium. In December of that year, it was reported that the stadium would have 35,000 seats, and the design looked somewhat different.
