On Almaty City Day, a festival featuring Kazakh and international street artists will take place at Terrenkur on Ospanov Street. The event is part of a new project, Street Art Avenue — an open-air street art gallery in Almaty, according to infohub.kz.
On September 20, residents will be able to watch new murals being created and talk with the artists. A free street art masterclass will also be held for anyone interested.
The art event will feature British artist Fanakapan, members of Moscow's 310 / 310 Squad, Belarusian artist Kontra / TAKTAK, and Kazakh graffiti artists.
"The centerpiece of the festival will be a composition dedicated to one of Almaty's symbols — the snow leopard. Each artist will present their own interpretation of the image, combining different styles and techniques," the city administration said.
The initiative is tied to the ongoing facade renovation in Almaty. Some old murals have lost their original appearance over time, so their authors were invited to create new works.
The previous murals will be preserved in digital format. QR codes will be placed in their locations, allowing people to view the original work and learn its history and creators.
