A video showing a graduate tearing his diploma during a graduation ceremony has gone viral on social media and sparked heated discussions, reports the website infohub.kz.
The footage shows the young man tearing his diploma after receiving it. The act drew outrage from social media users, many of whom saw it as disrespect to education, the institution, and teachers.
However, it later emerged that the act was a pre-planned stunt: the college student had torn a specially prepared copy rather than the original state-issued diploma. Nonetheless, the student, Daulet Aidossuly, a student at the International College of Business and Communications (ICB) in Almaty, issued a public apology.
"I, Abdrakhman Daulet Aidossuly, a student of the International College of Business and Communications (ICB). In connection with the video that spread on social media showing me tearing my diploma at the ceremony, I sincerely apologize to the college staff, teachers, the Department of Education, and the entire public. I did not tear my real diploma. I used a pre-prepared copy for the video. There was no malicious intent or disrespect towards the college and its values. I sincerely regret what happened and promise it will not happen again," the student said.
It is worth noting that the widely shared video drew criticism and reignited the debate over the significance of the graduation ceremony and the respect it commands in educational institutions.
