Almaty has launched a Situational Center to help students secure dormitory accommodations. The center was established through a joint initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the city administration, reports infohub.kz.
The center is located at the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University (QyzPU) at 142 Bogenbai Batyr Street.
"Students who have not managed to book a place in a dormitory through the digital platforms of higher education institutions or have encountered difficulties during the check-in process can directly contact the Situational Center," the Ministry of Science and Higher Education noted.
Center specialists review student applications and, if there are available places, select temporary accommodation options in dormitories or partner organizations.
To efficiently handle requests, the center is equipped with eight workstations with computers, access to digital databases, and a multi-channel communication system capable of receiving up to 10 calls simultaneously.
In addition, the center provides a waiting and rest area, a study corner, a coffee break zone, and a conference hall.
Earlier, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reported that the current shortage of places in student dormitories in Kazakhstan is about 10,000, not 33,000 as previously forecast.
Previously, blogger Nursultan Kamsebayev showed on social media the conditions in which students of the new Kazakh National University of Sports (KNUS) in Astana will live. The dormitories have private bathrooms and showers in each room, and the cost of living is 30,000 tenge per month.
