On Saturday, July 18, traffic will be temporarily restricted on several streets in the historic center of Almaty due to the Summer Relay evening relay race, according to infohub.kz.
The city administration reported that this year the race route will pass through the historic center for the first time. The relay will take place on Tole bi, Kabanbay batyr, Panfilov streets, and Abylay khan avenue.
The longest restrictions will be on a section of Tole bi street from Panfilov street to Abylay khan avenue. Traffic there will be closed from 9 a.m. on July 18 to 6 a.m. on July 19.
Other restrictions will be in effect on July 18 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. During this time, the following sections will be closed: Abylay khan avenue from Tole bi street to Kabanbay batyr street; Kabanbay batyr street from Abylay khan avenue to Nazarbayev avenue; and Panfilov street from Kabanbay batyr street to Tole bi street.
The competition program starts at 6 p.m. with children's races over 500, 1000, and 2000 meters. At 8 p.m., a 2-kilometer mass run begins, followed by the Summer Relay team relay at 9 p.m. Teams of five will cover 10 kilometers.
Organizers advise residents and visitors to plan their routes in advance and account for temporary changes in traffic patterns.
