This coming weekend, residents of Almaty will have the opportunity to observe the Sun through a telescope for free. This opportunity is provided by a local amateur astronomer, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to information from social media, astronomical observations have been conducted since 2025. Last time, the citizen organized a similar event in July. In the comments, users thank him for his volunteer work and note that such initiatives strengthen faith in people. Some, however, recall the joke that you can look at the Sun only twice – with your right eye and your left eye.
The astronomer has compiled a guide for proper observation. After bringing your eye close to the eyepiece, you need to freeze for 10–15 seconds so that details gradually emerge from the darkness. It is not recommended to look at the center of the disk – it is more interesting to observe the edges, where you can find "cosmic bonfires" – prominences.
"We plan to show: the photosphere – sunspots, granulation; the chromosphere – prominences through an H-alpha telescope," said the Almaty resident.
The observation will take place on August 29 from 12:00 to 15:00 in Dostyq Park on the banks of the Esentai River. Viewing through the telescope is free of charge.
