Residents of Almaty have voiced frustration over the demolition of a bus stop complex at the intersection of Tole bi and Momyshuly streets, saying large crowds gather there and the newly installed structures are too small, the website infohub.kz reports.
"The stop at Tole bi — Momyshuly was demolished. They're putting up new ones, in quotation marks. On a huge area where huge numbers of people wait for buses in the mornings, they brought two structures measuring 1.5 m by 3 m. They used to stand at the N. Sats Theater," a Threads user wrote.
The city akimat commented on the situation, explaining that the intersection of Tole bi and Momyshuly streets had previously been home to a bus stop complex with retail premises that operated without the required permits.
"On the basis of a court decision that entered into legal force, the demolition of an illegally constructed retail facility was organized. At present, two bus stop pavilions are being temporarily installed at the site to provide passengers with waiting conditions for public transport until the tender procedures are completed. Tender procedures for the purchase and installation of new bus stop pavilions are currently under way," the akimat said.
It added that once the tender results are announced and a contractor is selected, the temporary structures will be replaced with new bus stop pavilions, taking into account passenger traffic and the need to provide comfortable conditions for waiting for public transport.
