Ahead of the new school year, Almaty authorities plan to tighten control over the road situation, public transport operations, and safety near schools, reports infohub.kz.
Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy held an expanded staff meeting dedicated to preparing the city for the start of the school year. The main focus was on the transport situation, children's safety, and the progress of road construction works.
The mayor instructed responsible services to switch to an enhanced mode of operation. In the first days of September, it is necessary to ensure stable operation of public transport, promptly respond to traffic jams, and prevent unjustified road closures.
Special attention will be paid to areas near schools. Satybaldy instructed to strengthen control over the road situation and take additional measures on the busiest sections.
Relevant departments, district akimats, and the police department must constantly monitor the situation on the roads and make operational decisions based on the city's conditions.
Earlier it was reported that by the start of the school year, Almaty will enhance public transport operations. In the first two weeks of September, about 500 additional buses will be deployed on routes, and the number of metro trains will increase from 11 to 13. For transporting schoolchildren, 300 buses will be used, serving 60 schools and more than 13,000 children. From September 1 to 5, some akimat employees will be switched to remote work, and large companies were also recommended to consider remote work or flexible start times.
In addition, Almaty police earlier asked residents to refrain from using personal cars on September 1 if possible. In the first days of the school year, about 700 police officers and more than 130 patrol crews will be involved in maintaining order, and stationary posts and mobile patrols will operate near schools.
In the 2026-2027 academic year, Kazakhstan will have 8,048 schools, with more than 4.1 million students, including over 380,000 first-graders. In January-July, 32 new schools with 18,090 places were commissioned in the country.
