Almaty will again close Tole Bi Street for preparatory work on the light rail transit (LRT) project. This time, restrictions will affect two new sections, and drivers should plan detours in advance, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official LRT account in Almaty, from 22:00 on August 11, Tole Bi Street will be closed on the stretches from Baitursynov to Masanchi and from Zhumaliev to Baizakov. Traffic on these sections will be unavailable until 6:00 a.m. on August 12.
It is noted that these are preparatory works for construction. The contractor is relocating or reinforcing utilities, mainly water supply, sewage, high-voltage networks, and gas. Workers will also strengthen bridges and underground pedestrian crossings.
Earlier, plans were announced to launch the first stage of the LRT in Almaty. At the end of December 2025, the current city master plan with the LRT route was presented at public hearings. The first line will run along Tole Bi Street to Abylai Khan Avenue, then connect with Almaty-2 railway station. The depot will be located in the industrial zone near Momyshuly Street. In March 2026, land acquisition for construction began.
